of US Colored Troops The Sons and Daughters of the United States Colored
Troops (S&DUSCT) is chartered by the African-American Civil War Memorial Freedom
Foundation(AACWMFF) . It's primary goal is to augment the Foundation's mission
in using the high visibility a national monument," The Spirit of Freedom," and
the names of 209, 143 U.S. Colored Troops to change the way American history is
taught, and to motivate young people, especially African-Americans, to civic pride
and patriotism on a national basis. Mission
Statement
Sons and Daughters of US Colored Troops's (SD&USCT) primary mission
is to honor the historical legacy of those who served in the United States Colored
Troops(USCT),and to educate the public to the true role played by free blacks
and slaves in the American Civil War of 1860-1865. Secretary-General
The Secretary-General of the S&DUSCT is appointed by the AACWMFF
to facilitate the establishment of national chapters charted by the AACWMFF in
order to meet theses goals:
| 1. | Establish
historical markers and monuments to honor the local legacy of the USCT. |
| 2. | Identify
and maintain local USCT burial sites. | | 3. | Establish
and provide support for local educational programs on the historical legacy of
USCT. |
Membership:
Membership in support of African American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation
and Sons and Daughters of USCT will be in either one of two categories:
Descendant Members: Will be those who have established an ancestral link
to ancestors of black or white soldiers that served in the USCT. Memorial
Members: Will be those who have adopted a USCT soldier. Genealogy:
In order
to assist USCT descendants in locating vital information about their family's
heritage, the S&DUSCT will refer members to a Genealogy organization dedicated
to this work. They may charge a minimal fee for their services, subject to individual
