Sons & Daughters

United States Colored Troops

"Once let the black man get upon his person the brass letters 'US', let him get an eagle on his button and a musket on his shoulder and bullets in his pockets and there is no power on earth which can deny that he has earned the right to citizenship in the United States." Frederick Douglass

Origin of Sons and Daughters of US Colored Troops
The Sons and Daughters of the United States Colored Troops (S&DUSCT) is chartered by the African-American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation(AACWMFF) . It's primary goal is to augment the Foundation's mission in using the high visibility a national monument," The Spirit of Freedom," and the names of 209, 143 U.S. Colored Troops to change the way American history is taught, and to motivate young people, especially African-Americans, to civic pride and patriotism on a national basis.

Mission Statement
Sons and Daughters of US Colored Troops's (SD&USCT) primary mission is to honor the historical legacy of those who served in the United States Colored Troops(USCT),and to educate the public to the true role played by free blacks and slaves in the American Civil War of 1860-1865.

Secretary-General

1.Establish historical markers and monuments to honor the local legacy of the USCT.
2.Identify and maintain local USCT burial sites.
3.Establish and provide support for local educational programs on the historical legacy of USCT.
